Last September our wonderful friend Clare passed away from ovarian cancer. She was a treasured member of the Up & Running community – always up for a laugh, a weekend away, a long walk and/or a gin and tonic. It’s impossible to put into words just how much we miss her wicked wit and sparkling kindness, every day.
To celebrate her memory and to raise awareness about ovarian cancer, we’re holding a Virtual 5K on Wednesday 23 March, which would have been her 45th birthday.
We would so love if you’d consider joining us on this day (or any time that week) by running or walking 5K. It’s a virtual event so you can join in anywhere, anyhow. If a 5K is not your thing, you could do any workout you like – cycle, swim, gym (Clare loved the Les Mills classes)… or just dance ’round your living room. Anything goes!
We’ve also decided to raise some funds for Target Ovarian Cancer. If you wish to do so you can make donation of any amount as an “entry fee” for the Virtual 5K via our JustGiving page – it’s simple, fast and totally secure. Target Ovarian Cancer is a UK charity that works to improve early diagnosis, fund life-saving research and provide much-needed support to women with ovarian cancer. We’ll have a blog post next week with more information.
You can also download and print a snazzy Clare 5K race bib to wear on the day, if you like!
We hope you can join us. We know Clare would be shaking those trusty U&R pink pompoms to cheer us all on.
